Advent is not merely a reflection of events that happened 2000 years ago. Advent is also an expectantly hopeful season of longing for the second coming of Christ. With gratitude we remember the incarnation of the God-man, Jesus. And with gaze fixed to the skies we await his coming once more. My prayer is this poem and these words from our returning King will find you well in this Christmas season. Remember the reason for the hope that is in Christ through his perfect life, death, and resurrection here on earth, but do not forget to cherish the hope you have in his return when he will make all things new. He’s coming!

He’s Coming
The seed to crush the serpent’s head
The one who returns life to the dead
A hope that’s colored in crimson red

He’s Coming.
But have you read?
Do you know? The Prophets said
Seed will be sown.
In Bethlehem
From Lion’s tribe
Will come the lamb
to bleed and die.

Genesis 3:14a,15

The Lord God said to the serpent,… 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

Micah 5:2,5a

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace.

He’s coming.
The child of Abraham he must be
A shoot from stump of man Jesse
The Son of David, King of Kings
Messiah has to be all three.

He’s coming
Each promise kept
Till the end
With every step
To heal and mend
Unrighteous man
From our own sin
Only God can
And he took on skin!

He’s coming!

Genesis 22:15-18

And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

Isaiah 11:1-2

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

Jeremiah 33:14-17

Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: “The Lord is our righteousness.”

For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

He’s coming
Born of Virgin Isaiah said
Fled to Egypt Hosea Read
Escape a Herod to live instead
Do you not see, the seed, He’s coming!

What is his name?
Who will he be?
A dragon tamed
in victory
Come to us King
We long to see
And praise and sing
The God Mighty.

He’s here.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Luke 2:1-7

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

He’s Here
The God-man here for all mankind
Immanuel clear for you to find
A personal peer let me remind
Do not just hear and close your mind

He’s Here.
Many missed him
Despite the signs
Many twist him
To their own design
Do not ignore
The God who came
The healer for
The blind and lame

He’s Here
He’s Here
A Savior hung there on the cross
The wrath of God is what our sin cost
He bled and cried, and took on our loss
Yes, eternal death he took for us.

He died.
A Substitution
For all our sin
Our prostitution
To idols within
His Persecution
from our own hand
His execution
At our demand

He died.
A Savior hung on Christmas tree
By plan of God he died for me
And by simple faith, our freedom’s free
To be with God eternally.

He died.

Romans 5:8

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:21

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

He died.
But, he rose again
Up from the ground
Ascended then
To heaven crowned
A King to reign
forevermore

He will return
clothed white on horse.
He’s Coming

Revelation:19:6-8

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”

Revelation 19:11-16

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

He’s coming

Revelation 21:1-5a

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

He is coming
