"The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him." Psalm 37:39-40
A prayer for no fretting or envy over the life and influence of evildoers brings us a reminder of the place of safety and salvation that is dependence on God. This dependence actually brings eternal reward but the point is not the reward and instead the dependence.
There are a lot of things you can try to depend on today. Your job; your relationship; your wit; your bank account. All good things, if you have a positive balance! All of these things however can shift in a moment and become unstable and undependable. But "He will not forsake His Saints."
In times of abundance and times of struggle our stronghold is Yahweh, the Lord; this personal God that now we have relationship with because Jesus acted as a substitute in our place.
Made righteous in Christ, we are given salvation as a gift from the Lord and he is our refuge, our place of trust and dependence. He helps us, delivers us, he saves us. This is good news for all the nooks and crannies of life. For the job, the relationships, our financial situation, in it all we can rest knowing we are safe and secure.
Whatever you face today, be it a hard conversation or the good report and everything in between, take your trust in the Lord along. The Lord will not abandon you.
